travel

These are some random photos of just a few of the places where I have been (photos I took).  I am only posting them so that I can pin them onto Pinterest.  I'm unaware of a better way to do this!

birthday/santa cruz/mother's day

Saturday was daddy's birthday, so we headed out to Santa Cruz.  It was supposed to be a nice sunny day in the mid-70s, instead it was a cold cloudy day in the low 60s.  Brrr!  Kids don't feel cold anyway.  Sunday was mother's day so we spent the day at a BBQ with the fam.

the weekend

Last weekend started with a pot luck at Maddy's school for Cinco de Mayo.  We arrived late, but Maddy was happy that we showed up at all.  (We didn't attend the last pot luck).  When she saw us, her face lit up with delight and relief and she grabbed the chips and salsa from my hands.  She ran over to the table, opened up the salsa, set the chips on the table and ran off to play with her friends.  I realized that she wasn't necessary happy to see us; she was just happy that she wasn't one of the kids whose parents didn't make it and remained segregated in a different part of the yard.  Oh, well!  Whatever makes her happy.

On Saturday, we went to her school friend's birthday party at Roberts Regional Park in Oakland.  We didn't realize that it was so pretty up there with its redwood trees.  Maddy proclaimed, "This is nature!"  (We explained to her what "nature" was when we were in Yosemite).  She was the lone girl among 8 or so boys, but everyone was so impressed by how well she was able to hold her own.  Maddy has no problem putting boys in their places.

On Sunday, the weather was beautiful so we took a long leisurely bike ride around town.  We didn't ride our bikes at all last summer; it always felt too cold for it. So, Maddy hadn't ridden in her bike seat since she was 2 1/2.  She barely fit, but nothing was going to stop her from riding.  First, we fed the ducks, then we ate lunch on the new outdoor patio of Dragon Rouge.  After that, we asked Maddy where she wanted to go next and she said, "The park!"  Of course.
